VMI is a perfect choice and ,if an invitation is extended and accepted, the VMI will upgrade its football program. The other two possibilities are an enigma to me. While Mercer fits academically, its football program is not even close to a SOCON level. ETSU does not fit academically or athletically .It has no football program or appropriate football stadium. Everything here defies explanation. Why approach schools that do not meet standards. Also, ETSU will have to add programs??? I have said many times that the SOCON commissioner is not interested in maintaining a conference of schools that have the same academic and athletic philosophy. This approach is another example of his lack of leadership. Please refute my position --if I am wrong. Thanks

I agree totally with PC being a So Con conference addition. The academic standards are high. The rivalries are there with Citadel, Wofford, Furman, Elon and Davidson all being long time rivals. PC has been playing football continuously over 100 years and is taking great strides in football with a commitment to Division 1 and all that entails. PC is strong financially with strong alumni support. PC does need to make additions to its stadium as far as seating capacity to meet the growing need of entrance into So Con and its football guests. Vote PC in and lets continue to build on SC tradition and rivalry. This can only strengthen PC Div 1 football and the interest and fan support of the fan base of So Con football

It is a shame that Furman and Wofford would want to block any attempt by Presbyterian to gain entry into the Southern Conference as it makes sense in so many ways from the standpoint of travel expenses , tradition and rivalry between these highly academic schools.

The SOCON is not a basketball conference. It is a FCS conference with a tradition in football. The ADs/ presidents need to ensure that the commissioner understands this and not allow a ( BB ) shift in emphasis. I hope something substantive emerges from the April meeting ; however, I have not been impressed with the commissioner so far. Perhaps ,the ADs/presidents will be able to push for some action. It is important for the conference to act.
